I probably should have created a website in 2014 but I have continually put it off. I didn't think I needed one. I have never had trouble finding work and I don't like to feel like I am showing off, "Hey, look at me. I can make beautiful things!". There has always been more work than I know what to do with, which has given me the luxury to choose the projects that I want to do because they are fun, interesting or challenging. Now I know that is all very noble sounding, but it is only part of the truth. Underneath it all I have to admit part of me was/is scared. To have my work seen and judged is to be vulnerable. To do fine woodworking one must be meticulous, have a certain degree of perfectionism. I have been waiting for things to be just right. Well, as we know that day never comes. I read a quote recently to the effect that to be human is a process, we are constantly in a state of becoming. Therefore we could always feel insufficient but it is important to recognise that if we are striving to be better we are right where we need to be. There is no better time than now.
So why do I need a website? To share. For my work to be seen. Because something I do could inspire someone else. I believe strongly in the values consecrated within my work and I believe that I can inspire others to build or buy better, more consciously in a timeless way that honors the natural world from which everything is created. I have been greatly inspired by thousands of peoples creations, woodworking is just one aspect. What they make is ultimately an expression of the people who create them and their stories. I owe a debt of gratitude to the collective of creators which I could never repay, yet it will be my pleasure to try.
So here it is for everyone to see.
